Double Ikat Patan Patola Silk Saree in Red & Blue — Animal Bhat
Double Ikat · Animal Bhat · Elephant, Horse, Deer & Bird Figures · Patan, Gujarat
A spectacular double ikat Patan Patola in a bold red and navy composition. The saree body is woven in deep red silk with intricate geometric ikat patterns; the pallu shifts dramatically to a rich navy/teal blue ground densely filled with large animal-figure (naari bhat) motifs — elephants, horses, deer and birds rendered in vivid orange, white and green within a repeating diamond lattice. The borders carry geometric Patola bands in red, white and gold. Both warp and weft threads are individually resist-dyed before a single thread is placed on the loom — the hallmark of true double ikat. No blouse piece included.

Patan Patola is one of the most complex weaving traditions in the world — both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before weaving so the pattern emerges perfectly on both sides of the fabric. A single saree can take six months to a year to complete. The animal-figure (naari bhat) designs are among the oldest and most prestigious in the Patola repertoire, historically woven for royalty. This piece comes from the master weavers of Patan, Gujarat, where the tradition has been kept alive for over 700 years by just a handful of families.
