Double Ikat Patan Patola Silk Saree in Deep Purple
Double Ikat · Chhabdi Bhat & Hridaya Bhat · Patan, Gujarat
A majestic double ikat Patan Patola on a deep purple ground. The body is woven in the chhabdi bhat — large circular medallions framing full-bloom flowers in yellow, sky blue, pink and white, connected by white vine stems across the rich purple silk. The pallu showcases dense horizontal bands of geometric heart motifs (hridaya bhat) in pink, yellow, blue and orange, separated by fine white stripe borders. Patan Patola is one of the most complex weaving traditions in the world — both warp and weft threads are resist-dyed before weaving so the pattern emerges perfectly on both sides of the fabric. A single saree can take six months to a year to complete. This piece comes from the master weavers of Patan, Gujarat, where the tradition has been kept alive for over 700 years by just a handful of families.
