Double Ikat Rangkaat Patan Patola Silk Saree
Double Ikat · Multicolour Rangkaat Boxes · Elephant, Swan, Dancing Doll, Parrot & Flowers · Two Pallus
Like a Rangkaat in spirit — each box of this extraordinary Patan Patola holds a different colour and a different figure, woven through the Double Ikat process. Elephants, swans, dancing dolls, parrots and flowers fill the grid of multicoloured boxes, each perfectly formed before a single thread was ever put to the loom. The front and reverse are completely identical. It has two pallus. No blouse piece is ever included with a Patan Patola.

Patan Patola is one of India's most ancient and celebrated silk weaving traditions, practised by only three remaining families in Patan, Gujarat. What makes it extraordinary is the Double Ikat technique: both the warp threads and the weft threads are individually resist-dyed in precise sections before a single pass of the loom begins. Every colour, every figure, every geometric element is planned and dyed into the thread itself — nothing is painted, printed or embroidered. When the threads are woven together, the pre-dyed sections align perfectly to create the design. This process means no powerloom anywhere in the world can replicate a genuine Patan Patola. A single saree can take four to twelve months to complete. It is not a textile. It is a document of civilisation.
