Kani weaving is among the most labour-intensive crafts in the world — the weaver uses dozens of small wooden spools (kanis) to interlace coloured yarn into the fabric, creating a reversible tapestry-like pattern without a single knot. Layered over this with Sozni embroidery, each shawl represents hundreds of hours of skill passed down through generations of Kashmiri artisans.
