Chikankari is Lucknow's most celebrated embroidery tradition — shadow-work stitches worked in white on white to create a subtle, luminous texture. Hand-made jaali, where threads are teased apart and hand-worked into a fine net rather than punched by machine, is one of the most time-consuming skills within the craft and is increasingly rare to find done entirely by hand.
