Half & Half Hand Tie-Dye Shibori Silk Banarasi Saree
Hand Tie & Dye Shibori · Zari Border · Gold Butis
A saree that is as artistic as it is wearable. The body is divided into two distinct halves — one in deep navy silk, the other in a luminous sky blue — both worked in the Japanese-inspired Shibori tie-and-dye technique, which creates a signature crinkled stripe pattern across the fabric. Scattered gold zari butis add a Banarasi signature to the shibori ground, and a rich gold zari border with traditional floral motifs frames the entire drape.

Shibori is an ancient Japanese resist-dyeing technique where sections of fabric are bound, twisted or stitched before dyeing, so that the bound areas resist the dye and create intricate patterns when released. In this saree, Banarasi weavers have married that Japanese tradition with Indian craft — weaving gold zari butis into the shibori-dyed silk and adding a classic Banarasi zari border. The result is a saree that belongs to no single tradition and transcends both.
